Announcing the Passing of James W. Gould

James 鈥淛im鈥 W. Gould passed away on March 13, 2021, in Seattle at the age of 96. In 1960, Jim served as Fulbright Professor at the University of Munich and then began his tenure at Scripps, where he taught courses for 35 years in international relations, cultural geography, and women and peace.

The mass shooting that resulted in the murders of eight Asian Americans in Georgia, six of them women, has left many of us reeling at this latest example of the toll that racism, gender discrimination, and xenophobia exact on our communities. Unfortunately, this is only the most recent example in an increasing number of reports of anti-Asian sentiment and violence over the past year.

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Amy Marcus-Newhall has agreed to assume this important post for the duration of the search, serving as a special advisor to President Tiedens from April 1-15, and assuming the interim president position effective April 16.

Professor of Chemistry Mary Hatcher-Skeers Takes on New Role of Associate Dean of Faculty for Racial Equity

桃子视频 has created the new position of associate dean of faculty for racial equity (ADRE), thanks in large part to a generous gift by聽 Scripps Trustee Gale Picker P鈥14, P鈥19. This January, the College officially appointed Mary Hatcher-Skeers, professor of chemistry and Sidney J. Weinberg, Jr. Chair in Natural Sciences, to the position.
