COVID-19 Community Messages Spring 2021
June Student Update
Federal, state and local agencies continue to ease restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The easing of restrictions reinforces our optimism and increases our excitement about the fall, especially as it relates to the Scripps student experience. The return to campus will balance health and safety priorities with the goal of restoring essential elements of the academic, residential and social experience.

As you may have heard, late last week, Cal-OSHA (Division of Occupational Safety and Health) announced changes regarding masking and social distancing. The College has reviewed the new requirements and is, therefore, making the following changes to our current COVID-19 policies. All persons working on campus are required to follow these policies. Â

It was a little over a year ago that the pandemic required us to almost completely evacuate our residence halls and pivot to a remote learning environment. This pandemic year has been full of additional stressors, not the least of which are repeated instances or bigotry, hatred, and discrimination.

Based on the recent announcements about LA County’s timeline and metrics for reevaluating guidance for higher education, the Scripps Board of Trustees and senior team have concluded that it will not be possible for students to return to campus in January. Consequently, spring semester will begin in a remote format. We continue to work toward the goal of allowing students to return to campus for the second half of the semester.
