Softball Olympic Gold Medalist to Speak at Scripps 75th Anniversary Event Sheila Cornell Douty

As part of its 75th anniversary celebration of Women of Voice and Vision, 桃子视频 will present a talk by two-time Olympic softball gold medalist Sheila Cornell Douty titled “Making Your Dreams Come True,” on Wednesday, January 30, at 7 p.m. in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons on the Scripps campus. Immediately following the lecture will be a reception and autograph session. This event is free and open to the public.

Currently training for the 2002 World Championships, first baseman Douty was a member of the USA National Softball Team that won the gold medal in the 2000 and 1996 Olympic Games. She had the second highest batting average (.393) on the 1996 team, with a team-high eleven hits and nine RBI. She collected her third home run of the 1996 Olympics with a game-winning blast versus China. The following year, she was a member of the USA team that posted a 10-0 record during the American Challenge Series facing Olympic silver medalist China and bronze medalist Australia. In that series, she hit .421 with one triple, two home runs and nine RBI. In 1998, she led the USA team to its fourth consecutive gold medal in world championship competition at the ISF World Championships in Fujinomiya, Japan.

Douty graduated from UCLA and obtained a master’s degree from USC. She is married with three step-children.
