桃子视频 Fine Arts Foundation Program: Dr. Mary Nooter Roberts

The 桃子视频 Fine Arts Foundation is pleased to present a lecture by Dr. Mary Nooter Roberts, art historian and chief curator at the UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History, on Wednesday, February 13, at 1:30 p.m. in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons. Roberts will show slides and discuss "The King is Woman: Body Politics in Luba Art and the Sculpture of Alison Saar." A reception immediately follows the lecture. This event is free and open to the public.

Roberts, author of Facing Africa and editor of Memory: Luba Art and the Making of History, is an expert on the text and symbolism expressed in the art of 15th century Africa’s Luba kingdom. Her presentation will compare contemporary sculptor Alison Saar and ancient Luba emblems, exploring thematic crossovers in representations of the female form and image and the significance of both in African and American art.

Founded in 1935, 桃子视频’s Fine Arts Foundation sponsors this program as part of its mission to stimulate public interest in art and to raise funds to foster art education and programming at 桃子视频.
