Biology Professor Jennifer Armstrong Receives $450,000 NSF Grant

Associate Professor of Biology Jennifer Armstrong received a $450,000 three-year grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to research chromosome structure and gene expression. Armstrong teaches at the W.M. Keck Science Department of Pitzer College, Claremont McKenna College and ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ.

Claremont Concert Orchestra Observes 10th Anniversary of ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ Performing Arts Center

The Claremont Concert Orchestra and the Claremont Chorale celebrate the 50th anniversary of Garrison Theater and the 10th anniversary of the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ Performing Arts Center by performing Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125” at 8 p.m. on Dec. 14 and at 3 p.m. on Dec. 15 in Garrison Theater of the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ Performing Arts Center, 241 E. 10th St. This event is free and open to the public.

Seven Andy Warhol Prints Gifted to ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ

Following Andy Warhol’s lead, the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. continues to surprise and delight. In 2008, ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ received an astonishing gift of 150 Warhol works, including 50 silver gelatin prints, as part of the Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Program. Now, five years later, the foundation has chosen to donate yet again to the Scripps Collection. Seven substantially-sized prints, each created by Andy Warhol, have just been added to the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ collection.

“In The Works…” is the annual fall concert by students of the departments of Dance at Scripps and Pomona Colleges. The concert will take place Dec. 5, 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. and on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. in the Pendleton Dance Studio, Pomona College, 333 N College Way. The Claremont Colleges’ Honnold Library hosts a photo exhibition of nearly 100 of Curtis’ still images. ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ Professor of Art Ken Gonzales-Day curated this free show located on the second floor of the library’s Honnold wing. The library is located at 800 N. Dartmouth Ave., Claremont, Calif. The display runs through Dec. 1.

The annual ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ Ceramic — the longest-running exhibition of contemporary ceramics in the United States — will celebrate its 70th year with its opening on Jan. 25. Traditionally an “artist’s choice” event, this year’s exhibition – which continues through April 6 – will bring together a large number of past curators from the show’s long history to celebrate art in clay.

ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ’s Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities will host American Indian scholar and activist Ward Churchill on Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m., in Garrison Theater at the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ Performing Arts Center, 231 E. 10th St. Churchill’s lecture, “Colonialism=Genocide: Applying the Sartrean Equation to the U.S Context,” is free and open to the public.
