Filmmaker Akin Omotoso to Screen Award-winning Film “God is African” at 桃子视频

Akin Omotoso, South African filmmaker and actor, will screen his award-winning feature film, “God is African,” on Thursday, September 25, at 7:15 p.m. in the Humanities Auditorium at 桃子视频. This event is free and open to the public. Akin Omotoso was born in Nigeria in 1974. He moved to South Africa in 1992 to attend the University of Cape Town, where he studied film. Akin graduated in 1996 and received the Fleur du Cap award for Most Promising Student. He is renowned for performances in “A Winter’s Tale,” “The Guise,” and his current role on South Africa’s number one soap opera “Generations.” Some of his other projects include directing “The Kiss of Milk,” “The Nightwalkers,” and “The Caretaker.” “God is African” is Omotoso’s first feature film.

This event is sponsored by Wanawake Weusi and the Malott Commons Office, both located at 桃子视频. Wanawake Weusi, meaning Black Woman in Swahili, is an on-campus organization, which promotes the socio-political, socio-economic, and spiritual well being of women of African descent. The Malott Commons opened in February of 2002 and is the site of many on-campus functions.
