Scripps Celebrates Class of 2024 at 94th Commencement

On May 11, 2024, 桃子视频 celebrated the Class of 2024 with its 94th Commencement ceremony. The event honored this year鈥檚 graduates and their academic accomplishments and milestones.

鈥淪cripps was founded on the principles of innovation, inclusion, and the pursuit of knowledge. Scripps is an inspiring place that cultivates exceptional individuals. We know that after your years as part of the campus community, you leave with not only a degree, but as a part of the legacy of Scripps graduates prepared and ready to make your unique contribution to the world outside this campus,鈥 said Laura Hockett, chair of Scripps鈥 Board of Trustees, in her opening remarks.

Addressing the graduates, President Amy Marcus-Newhall said, 鈥淵our class includes scholars, leaders, community builders, and changemakers. You have pursued diverse interests and passions that have led to unexpected and transformative results over the past four years. What鈥檚 more, you have remained resilient in the face of unprecedented and challenging times.鈥

This year鈥檚 senior class speaker was Ella Lehavi, a dual major in art and computer science. 鈥淚t鈥檚 hard leaving behind all the community we鈥檝e spent four years cultivating, but our connections here are a testament to the fact we can build those connections anywhere. Take what you鈥檝e learned and bring it with you into all the awesome place鈥檚 you鈥檙e going to end up,鈥 they advised their fellow classmates in their speech.

This year鈥檚 keynote speaker was Jeanette Charles-M谩rquez 鈥10, selected by senior class copresidents Tara Naomi Zhang and Destiny Rivera-Gomez on behalf of the Class of 2024. Charles-M谩rquez was recently named a聽Fulbright-Hays DDRA Fellow to Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago and is a long-time solidarity activist, language justice interpreter, writer and editor, and independent journalist with experience throughout the Americas.
