President Suzanne Keen officially welcomed Scripps students, faculty, and staff back to campus for a new academic year during the College鈥檚 academic convocation on Monday, August 29.
Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Faculty Amy Marcus-Newhall introduced several new tenured faculty members and applauded faculty who earned recognition for their teaching and service during the previous academic year. Frederick Hard Chair in English Literature and Professor of English Aaron Matz delivered the keynote speech on the importance of keeping the eventualities of history in view, especially for students of literature and politics.
Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choirs Charles Kamm closed the event with a performance of Thy Many Gifts, the College鈥檚 alma mater, first composed in 1932.
