Alice Rowan Swanson Scholarship | This $100,000 fellowship fund established by the family of SIT Study Abroad Nicaragua ’06 alumna Alice Rowan Swanson, is a living tribute to Alice’s life, her passion for bridging cultures and helping others and the role that SIT Study Abroad played in her life. An Amherst ’07 graduate, Alice was killed while riding her bike to work in 2008. |

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship | An annual scholarship funded by Congress to honor the past senator to encourage outstanding undergraduate students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering, and to foster excellence in those fields. |
Boren Scholarship | Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. |
Capital Fellows Program | The nationally recognized Capital Fellows Programs, administered by the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento, are an outstanding opportunity to engage in public service, prepare for a future career and gain experience under a seasoned mentor. |
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellows | 1-year fellowships to graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year to work as research assistants to the Endowment’s senior associates. Must be nominated by a participating institution. All applications should go through the Associate Dean of Faculty’s office. |
Churchill Scholarship | This scholarship offers American students of exceptional ability and outstanding achievement the opportunity to pursue one year of graduate study in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the University of Cambridge in England. |
Coro Foundation Fellowship | There are several Coro programs. One of the best known is the Fellows Program in Public Affairs. It is a nine-month, full-time, post-graduate experiential leadership training program which introduces diverse, intelligent and driven young public servants to all aspects of the public affairs arena. The Fellows Program in Public Affairs is conducted in Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and St. Louis. |
Cultural Vistas Fellowship | The Cultural Vistas Fellowship affords underrepresented U.S. university students the unique opportunity to advance their career goals, develop global competencies, and experience life in another culture. Cultural Vistas selects up to 12 fellows to take part in this multinational professional development program in the field of sustainability, which includes eight-week summer internships in Argentina, Germany, and Singapore. This fellowship opportunity is funded by Cultural Vistas. |
Davis Projects for Peace | A $10,000 award to support a student (or group of students) to create a grassroots project to promote peace anywhere in the world. |

Fulbright Scholarship | Scholarships for seniors and recent graduates interested in graduate study, research, or a Teaching Assistantship in English in one of 128 countries. |
Fulbright Summer Institutes for US Undergraduates | The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers special Summer Institutes for US citizens to come to the UK. These summer programs provide the opportunity for US undergraduates (aged over 18), with at least two years of undergraduate study left to complete, to come to the UK on a three, four, five, or six week academic and cultural summer program. |
Gates Cambridge Scholarship | Gates Cambridge Scholarships are prestigious, highly competitive full-cost scholarships. They are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The program aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. |
Harry S. Truman Scholarship | An annual scholarship funded by Congress in memory of the past president. Awards grants to juniors aspiring to leadership positions in federal, state, or local governments or in non-profit and education sectors for a senior year stipend and for graduate study. Humanity in Action | Humanity in Action Fellows participate in an annual month-long human rights fellowship program held each summer in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris or Warsaw. |
James Madison Graduate Fellowships | The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers graduate fellowships to individuals desiring to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution at the secondary school level. Fellowship applicants compete only against other applicants from the states of their legal residence. Generally, one Fellowship per state is awarded each year. |
Marshall Scholarship | Finances two years of postgraduate study that results in a bachelor’s or master’s degree at select universities in the U.K. |
Mellon Interdisciplinary Humanities Initiative | The Mellon Interdisciplinary Humanities Initiative is a four-year grant awarded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in support of interdisciplinary work rooted in the humanities. The initiative consists of three main elements: the interdisciplinary humanities undergraduate research fellowship program for students every summer; professional development opportunities for faculty research mentors who are interested in working with the community; and development and implementation of new courses that will pair faculty, students, and community organizations in addressing complex issues through a humanities lens. All seek to further fortify the importance of the humanities in the Scripps curriculum and in our lives. |
Mitchell Scholarship | Awards tuition, room, and a stipend for post-graduates to pursue one-year of study at institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. |
National Geographic Young Explorers Grant | The Young Explorers Grants (YEG) offer opportunities to individuals ages 18-25 to pursue research, conservation, and exploration-related projects consistent with National Geographic’s existing grant programs, including: the Committee for Research Exploration (CRE), the Expeditions Council (EC), and the Conservation Trust (CT). |
National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship | Awards of up to $15,000 stipends and $9,500 for tuition and fees per year for three years to support graduate study in mathematics, physical science, biological science, engineering, behavioral science, or social science. |
NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program | The National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program is an accelerated, individualized doctoral training program for outstanding science students committed to biomedical research careers. The program is based on the British system in which students perform doctoral research without required formal courses other than those students choose to take in relationship to their own interests. Students selected for admission to the program have already developed a sophisticated scientific background by having engaged in research as undergraduates. |

Princeton in Africa | Founded in 1999, Princeton in Africa develops young leaders committed to Africa’s advancement by offering yearlong fellowship opportunities with a variety of organizations that work across the African continent. |
Princeton in Asia Fellowship | PiA sponsors over 165 fellowships in 20 countries and is the oldest and largest organization of its kind, unique in its scope, size, century-long expertise and emphasis on service. The essence of PiA is to provide transformative, service-oriented experiences for bright, talented graduates and to serve the needs of Asia as determined by our host institutions and Asian partners. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship | The Pickering Fellowships provide support for either the senior year of undergrad and 1st year of grad school, or 2 years of graduate school leading toward a career in the U.S. Foreign Service upon receipt of a master’s degree. One of the missions of the program is to increase participation of under-represented demographic groups in the U.S. Foreign Service. |
Udall Scholarship | An annual scholarship funded by Congress to honor Senator Udall. Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate sophomores or juniors who study the environment and/or to Native American and Alaska Native undergraduate sophomores and juniors who are in fields related to health care and tribal public policy. University of Oxford Scholars in Biomedical Research | New doctoral programs at the National Institutes of Health that permit American students to pursue collaborative biomedical research projects between a laboratory at NIH and Oxford University leading to a Ph.D. from that university. |
