Designed by Smith and Williams of Pasadena, the Music Building opens with a recital hall seating 150, a music library, classrooms, practice rooms, and faculty offices. The hall is named in honor of pianist Lee Pattison, or “Mr. Patâ€‌ to students, a Scripps professor of music. The Caster Music Library is a memorial to J. Edward Caster, a Scripps professor of music, and to Doris Caster, director of the Choral Club. The Richardson Dance Studio opens, named for Beatrice E. Richardson, the first professor of dance at Scripps. Longtime trustee Lucille Phillips Morrison funds the project; Smith and Williams also design the dance studio.
